Baseball is winding down. The Tigers have a pulse now, but it’s too little, too late. The Lugnuts are out of the Midwest League playoff picture but the Loons have to be the favorites to win the league.

The Red Wings start up their pre-season schedule late this month with one game on TV.

The Lugnuts face the Angry Apples With Questionable Mental Health many times this month; the Loons do the same with the Angry Baseball-Eating Waves.

I should have a Lions season schedule wallpaper out pretty soon. I’m even thinking about doing the same with Michigan and Michigan State (but without the times and TV because of the way the scheduling works in the NCAA).

It’s retro month! All wallpapers use a classic computer font and space background, the Tigers and Lugnuts have retro team logos and the opponent logos on the Tigers wallpaper are from the 80s and early 90s (all logos are from this time period with the exception of Tampa Bay, who did not exist until 1998). Since I couldn’t really use retro opponent logos on the Lugnuts and Loons wallpapers, I used cap logos to change it up.

A few notes on the MLB logos used:

• Cleveland – I really didn’t have a retro logo to use from this time period, so I made up a wordmark based on their 1989 to 1993 uniforms.
• Minnesota – That really is a retro logo, if only by a year.
• Boston – Same case as Minnesota. This logo was last used in 2008.

It’s April in the D! *groans*

The Tigers open 2010 with Dontrelle at the end of the rotation. Yikes. Good thing we’re only weeks away from the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Red Wings on a very hot streak. As for the Pistons? Let’s hope the lottery is kind to them. Minor League Baseball is also underway this month, so get on out and enjoy inexpensive baseball if you have some in your area.

I’ll probably update the Tigers wallpapers if/when TV changes happen because of Red Wings playoff games. Don’t look for a Red Wings playoffs wallpaper.

It’s time for the biannual “Retro Month”. I have selected logos from the past of the teams that the Red Wings and Pistons will be playing this month. I have limited the logo selection to current locations of teams, which is why you won’t see a Hartford Whalers logo when the Red Wings play Carolina. After what happened in Hartford, there’s no way I could do that. As for teams that don’t have any real retro logos (like the Minnesota Wild) I chose alternate logos.

Holy carp, that’s a lot of wallpapers. I replaced the 1280 x 720 with 1366 x 768. If you were using 1280 x 720, just use 1280 x 800 and either “center” or “shrink” it.

A few weeks ago I upgraded my display to an LG W2361V-PF, which required me to do some reformatting of the wallpapers as I now run at a 1920 x 1080 resolution. While doing so, I wrote a script that uses ImageMagick to automatically crop and resize the different wallpaper sizes. The real benefit for you guys is that I wrote the script to support the TWELVE most common resolutions I can find. This script makes my life a lot easier as I don’t have to manually crop and resize the wallpapers. If I still don’t have your display resolution, I’m sorry. I can’t support every resolution out there but I’m doing the best I can.

Yet more design changes! I finally found a new font that I really like after much searching. A new background design is in the works and it will be ready for next month. I’ll have March’s wallpapers before the Tigers start playing Spring Training games as I’ll be including the February part of their schedule on the March wallpaper (a whopping 4 games).

I did the best with all of that empty space. February is hard like that.

In honor of the Winter Classic, I have made retro-styled wallpapers for the Pistons and Red Wings for January. You will find a classic logos and an old school font. I even used retro TV network logos (where possible) I really went all-out on these! Retro month seems to be the most popular of all of my designs.

As far as the Spirit, the logistics prevented me from going full retro. There just aren’t enough good quality classic logos out there for OHL teams (not to mention the possible unfamiliarity with Saginaw being a relatively young OHL town). I used the same font as the Pistons and Red Wings wallpapers and utilized the shoulder logo found on the 3rd jersey.
